National Park Marriage Proposal

Will booked an adventure session with plans to propose on a remote beach in the Olympic National Park at sunset. As the day came closer, the weather forecast kept getting worse, calling for rain in the afternoon into the evening.

The hike on the beach would be exposed and cold — not a very enticing adventure! Instead, we drastically changed our plans. Will didn’t want to compromise on privacy, so we opted for a sunrise proposal at another location that wouldn’t require a trek before dawn to see great views.

On the day of, we casually met in the parking lot, and I headed down to the beach knowing they’d be tailing me. I stayed about 100 yards in front of them and led them to an impressive set of haystacks before I wandered up the beach to capture the scene from afar.

Soon enough, I saw my cue that Will was about to propose. He turned to face Emerson, got down on one knee, and asked her to marry him. She was so surprised, and I was too far away to confirm, but I’m pretty sure some happy tears were shed.

After they reveled in the moment, we explored the beach and tide pools, taking photos along the way. We parted ways on the beach, and as I walked back to the parking lot, I looked down at the beach to see them sitting together on a driftwood log. What a perfect way to start a day.
