Surprise Sunset Proposal — 80 Feet Above the Pacific

Imagine your first view of the Pacific Ocean is of teal blue waters, with waves crashing into sea caves 80 feet below you. There are forested islands off in the distance and a marine layer haze that the sunlight filters through perfectly.

This is the Olympic National Park in Washington state. It’s part of 73 miles of protected wilderness coastline. It’s so primitive that most of it can only be reached by foot.

That’s how you arrive at the viewpoint where Brad proposed marriage to Alyssa. It’s a short walk through the coastal forest to reach the edge of the cliffs. The trees look worn from the wind and seawater, with roots spread out over the trail like they’re trying to hang on.

Alyssa said yes to the proposal, of course! We spent the rest of the evening exploring the trial, three more overlooks and spotted seals and jellyfish below.

Brad and Alyssa have a goal of visiting every national park in the U.S., but they also love to seek out the local wildlife on their trips. This one hike checked off so many bucket list items for them.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of such a monumental moment.

Congratulations, Brad and Alyssa!
