Lake Crescent Lodge Surprise Proposal
Sheridan and I organized his proposal to Kaitlyn in two weeks! They were visiting Washington to backpack in the Olympic National Park.
Originally, Sheridan wanted to propose in the rainforest right before they left on their backpacking trip, but after giving it some thought, he knew that Kaitlyn would prefer being dressed up for this moment, so he booked a room at the Lake Crescent Lodge. This gave them enough time to freshen up after their backpacking trip and pop the question on the dock before sunset.
Of course, the dock at the lodge is a popular spot to swim and enjoy the views. When Sheridan texted saying they were about to leave their room and head to the dock, I kindly asked the people lounging on the dock if they wouldn’t mind moving off it for a few minutes. When they heard someone was going to be proposing there, they were thrilled to be a part of it. They sat at the beginning of the dock and whenever others approached it, they explained what was happening, and everyone was kind enough to keep the dock clear.
A few minutes later, Sheridan and Kaitlyn started walking down the path to the dock. Incidentally, a couple turned onto the path right in front of them — headed straight down the empty dock. Sheridan played it cool, and they walked slowly onto the dock, stopping to read the plaques along the way. The other couple made it to the end of the dock and turned to see the beachgoers waving at them to come back. They realized what was happening and excitedly rushed back to the beach.
Once the dock was clear, Sheridan got down on one knee. After Kaitlyn said yes, everyone cheered for them! Kaitlyn showed them her ring and Sheridan deemed them his guardian angels.
By then, Kaitlyn and I had been introduced, and I encouraged them to go back to the end of the dock and soak in this moment a little longer. When they had their fill, we wandered through the nearby trails to take a few more photos. Kaitlyn loves forests and large trees, so proposing at Lake Crescent, which is surrounded by old-growth forests, was a great choice.
Congratulations again, Sheridan and Kaitlyn!
