Pacific Northwest Beach Wedding at Hope Island

When 2020 flipped Abby and Jack’s wedding plans from a large wedding with many out of state guests to an intimate ceremony, I had the honor of helping guide them through changes. The first, biggest, and most urgent detail was finding a new ceremony location since they were saving their original venue for their postponed reception.

As it turns out, Abby’s family used to own an island that is now Hope Island State Park. It’s remote, only accessible by boat, and even has a view of Mount Rainier. What could be more perfect for an intimate wedding!?

I was excited to boat to and from a wedding! I rode to the island with the bridal party, and as soon as we landed we got distracted by the tiny crabs on the beach. Once we found the wedding party, we started with a few getting-ready shots, their first look, and group photos.

For their ceremony, everyone wore masks and Jack and Abby asked everyone to make a large circle around them. They overlooked the water for their vows, but my favorite ceremony shots were from down on the beach looking back into the forest. The backlighting was dreamy!

Their reception (taking place when Washington was still allowing them) consisted of a BYOP —bring your own picnic — for dinner. We all ate as the sun set, spotting seals pop up in the water and canoes row by. We ended the night with a few portraits at sunset before I hopped on a boat back. It was as beautiful as any wedding could be, despite it not being their first plan!

Congratulations on getting married, Abby and Jack! I hope you had an amazing honeymoon summiting Mount Baker!
