Foggy Artist Point Elopement

Jennifer and Patrick had never been to Washington before their elopement. They wanted to get married in the mountains with views so large you can’t help but feel small.

They were bringing their seven-month-old son, Connor, along with them, and hiking far for epic views wasn’t an option for them. Exploring the Mount Baker Highway and ending at Artist Point was the perfect location.

We made our first stop at a lake featuring Mount Shuksan, and Jennifer said this was already the most beautiful drive they’ve ever been on. When we got to Artist Point, they agreed it felt like they were standing on top of the world.

As we made our way along the trail, Jennifer exclaimed the view of the cloud inversion in the valley below was her favorite view yet. They took a moment to soak in the view, and when we all turned around, there was a wall of swirling clouds on the other side of the mountain that wasn’t there before.

With the clouds quickly approaching, they made the impromptu decision to get married right there. They wrote their own vows and self-solemnized. We did the legal paperwork in advance at the car, asking strangers to sign as their witnesses, and I signed as the officiant. Their ceremony was so touching, full of tender moments and resounding stories of supporting one another.

After sealing their ceremony with a kiss, they explored the trail further. The views got even more dramatic in the fog. We walked back to the cars, with the fog glowing from the sunset, and Jennifer and Patrick agreed this was everything they’d hoped for their elopement.

Congrats again, Jennifer and Patrick!
