Why You Should Go Overlanding for Your Elopement

What’s overlanding, you say? It’s like off-roading, but instead of focusing on tackling driving over obstacles, it’s all about the journey to beautiful destinations.

Think dirt roads, open sky, and awe-inspiring views. Essentially, overlanding gives you all the benefits of eloping miles into the backcountry with minimal effort in getting there.

What are the benefits of overlanding?

Adventure

Whether you’re experienced or new to overlanding, there’s a bit of adventure and excitement in every trip. Roads change season to season, so no two trips are the same. You’ll likely have a bumpy, fun journey, with the potential for some technical driving.

Unless you already have plenty of off-roading and overlanding experience, I suggest hiring a guide. Not only will they have a suitable vehicle, but they’ll also be familiar with the local trails and conditions.

Forest roads aren't always marked, so having someone else take on the burden of directing is helpful too. With someone else responsible for driving, both you and your partner can focus on the journey.

You’ll be able to choose the amount of adventure, excitement, and obstacles you’ll face on the trails as well. Road conditions are well documented and have ratings between easy and difficult, so, with some guidance, you’ll be able to choose the right amount of adventure for yourselves beforehand.

Beautiful scenery

The views along trails often rival sights you’d expect to see in national parks. Since you’ll be driving, you’ll be able to travel further and see more scenery than you would if you were hiking. Plus, you can hop out when you want to slow down and enjoy the views!

Seclusion

I deeply appreciate the lack of crowds while overlanding. The farther you get away from popular hiking trails and easy-to-reach viewpoints, the less people you’ll see. Rather than worrying about strangers wandering through your ceremony, the only onlookers you may have will be the local deer.

Pack weight

Unlike a hiking elopement, there is no need to pack light while overlanding. Go for the gourmet picnic setup, the champagne, and fun accessories! If you’ve never lugged thirty pounds of gear up a mountain, you can believe me when I say not worrying about pack weight is a luxury.
